People always talk about the empire. Maybank, Telekom, now Grab — like I’m some kind of tycoon robot built for boardrooms and billion-ringgit deals. But I’m just a guy who wants the people I love to be okay.
That’s why I threw this dinner party. Not for PR. Not for appearances. Just… to celebrate something I built, with the people I care about most. I’ve done the Gatsby-style galas — now I just want a quiet table and real conversations. Of course, with this group, “quiet” is wishful thinking.
Some of the guests tonight go way back with me. I picked them all myself… except one. That one just showed up. And listen — everyone’s got baggage. Grudges. Secrets. I won’t name names, but I know for a fact some of them haven’t fully forgiven each other.
And here’s the thing — in business, I can smell a backstab a mile away. But in friendship? In family? That’s harder. That’s what scares me. Sometimes, the person you’d bet your life on… is the one who takes it.
People say I’m intimidating, but generous. Truth is, life made me this way. I’ve seen things most people can’t imagine. That changes you. Teaches you that fear gets more results than love ever will.
But even with all that… I still believe in love. I still believe in people.
You asked me if I have regrets. I say I don’t — but maybe I do. Maybe I wish I told people I loved them more. Maybe I wish I gave back a little more instead of constantly chasing the next thing.
And maybe… just maybe… tonight will finally force me to face that.
